Amazon Business unveiled two AI-driven procurement capabilities on Oct. 27 at its Reshape event in Nashville, almost one year after it first launched the Amazon Business Assistant in 2025. The announcements pair expanded Business Assistant functions with a new reporting experience the company calls Amazon Business Value Intelligence.

The upgrades aim squarely at procurement pain points — approvals, invoice reconciliation and spend visibility — in a push to lift Amazon Business sales among the B2B buyers it serves.

What can the upgraded Business Assistant do?

Amazon described the enhancement as a shift "from a general-purpose resource into a conversational tool that speaks to each customer's business account orders, spend, and activity" in a blog post published Oct. 27.

Shelley Salomon, worldwide vice president of Amazon Business, framed the problem in terms of lost hours. "Every hour a procurement team spends chasing approvals or manually reconciling invoices is an hour they're not spending on the work that moves their organization forward," Salomon said in a released statement. "Amazon Business Assistant now steps in to handle the repetitive, time-consuming tasks that slow teams down, so they can focus on finding the right products, managing supplier relationships, and driving real value across their business."

The specific enhancements include:

  • Order tracking
  • Approvals process information
  • Savings recommendations
  • Integrated payment allocation options
  • Spending analysis

The features are live now for Amazon Business customers in the U.S., accessible through their account pages.

What is Amazon Business Value Intelligence?

The second announcement targets measurement itself. Amazon Business Value Intelligence will give U.S.-based buyers new ways to understand savings, operational efficiency and purchase compliance. The insights draw on an organization's own Amazon Business data, viewed alongside third-party benchmarks that Amazon Business tracks.

Salomon argued procurement reporting has long overstated price because it is the simplest metric to capture. "Procurement has always been about more than price, but price is what gets reported because it's the easiest thing to measure," she said. "We designed Value Intelligence to change the conversation from 'what did this cost?' to 'what value is procurement creating?'"

Amazon Business positions Value Intelligence as a communication tool for management and finance teams. "Now leaders can see the savings, time back, and off-policy spend prevented in one view, and confidently show the full impact of their buying strategy, not just the price," Salomon stated.

Why does reporting credibility matter?

The company pitched both capabilities as ways to lend credibility to strategy and decisions with supporting data. The intent is practical: procurement managers get reports they can circulate inside their organizations, finance teams can reconcile numbers, and all parties can align on a shared account of the results and value procurement produces.

That shared-numbers goal separates Value Intelligence from typical spend dashboards, which report cost alone. It moves the conversation toward off-policy spend prevented and time recovered — metrics procurement leaders have historically struggled to quantify for executives.

For B2B marketers, the rollout signals Amazon Business's bet that AI-assisted workflow plus benchmark-backed reporting will keep procurement teams inside its ecosystem. With the Business Assistant upgrades already live in the U.S., adoption of Value Intelligence among finance-minded buyers will be the measure to watch in the coming quarters.
