At a glance

  • Food Lion plans six new stores in the Carolinas and Georgia by the end of 2026, on top of four openings earlier this year.
  • Opening dates: Summerfield, N.C., Sept. 23; Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 7; Lavonia, Ga., Oct. 14; Greenville, Hilton Head and Wren, S.C., in October, November and December.
  • All new stores offer Food Lion To Go pickup and delivery plus Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats, with self-checkout lanes and the Nature's Promise private label.

Food Lion will open six grocery stores across the Carolinas and Georgia before the end of 2026, adding to the four locations the Salisbury, N.C.-based grocer opened earlier this year, the company announced Tuesday.

The rollout starts quickly. A store in Summerfield, N.C., opens Sept. 23, followed by Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 7 and Lavonia, Ga., on Oct. 14. Three more South Carolina locations — Greenville, Hilton Head and Wren — are scheduled to open in October, November and December, respectively. Food Lion operates stores in 10 states.

President Greg Finchum tied the expansion to broader momentum. "Each new store is designed to meet our customers' evolving needs," Finchum said. "The growth we're experiencing in 2026 creates strong momentum for next year and beyond."

Every new store will support omnichannel shopping. Customers can order online through the Food Lion To Go website and mobile app, with pickup and delivery options. The grocer also will fulfill orders placed through Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats.

In-store, each location will feature self-checkout lanes alongside traditional cashier-assisted checkout. Assortments will include fresh produce, meats, prepared meals and organic, gluten-free and plant-based products.

Private label gets prominent placement. Food Lion's Nature's Promise brand of natural and organic products will be available throughout the stores. The Local Goodness program will stock products from regional suppliers in the Carolinas and Georgia.

Each location will partner with local food banks and community organizations. The company's Food Lion Feeds program has donated more than 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and targets 3 billion meals donated by 2032.

With 10 new stores in a single year and pickup, delivery and self-checkout standard across the fleet, Food Lion positions itself for continued growth into 2027.
