Reebok says the $170 Question Mid Recoded will launch in the U.S. on Nov. 10 at Foot Locker and become globally available Nov. 16. The release also lists Reebok’s website as a place to buy the shoe.

Reebok describes the U.S. rollout as exclusive to Foot Locker, although the same announcement includes Reebok’s website. It does not specify when website orders begin, leaving the practical boundary between exclusivity and broader access unclear.

Reebok says the shoe comes in two colorways: the original Red Toe and a new 30th Anniversary Green. The company has not said how many pairs it plans to sell, so the launch details are clear but the scale is not.

What changes in the 1996 Question?

Reebok says the Mid Recoded preserves the original Question design, a model introduced in 1996 alongside Allen Iverson. The company also says it improves cushioning and traction.

“With Recoded, the goal was to honor everything that made the Question an icon. This meant staying true to the original silhouette that’s become ingrained in Iverson’s DNA,” Reebok basketball designer Anthony Hale said in a statement.

The same statement focused on current performance needs. He added: “Rebuilding this shoe for the modern hooper to live in and play in simply meant injecting our latest tech and understanding of how a basketball shoe should feel and perform.”

The announcement provides no cushioning measurements, traction tests or comparison with the 1996 shoe. That leaves Reebok’s performance claim unmeasured, even though the heritage proposition is specific.

How does Reebok reset its basketball business?

Reebok reentered the performance basketball arena last year, and its renewed basketball investment resulted from the brand’s 2021 acquisition by Authentic Brands Group. Before that deal, Adidas owned Reebok and had steadily positioned the brand away from most sports in which it once competed.

Iverson was one of Reebok’s most notable basketball ambassadors in the 1990s, alongside Shaquille O’Neal. Both joined Reebok in 2023 to rejuvenate the brand’s basketball business, with O’Neal as president of basketball and Iverson as vice president of basketball.

The Question relaunch turns Iverson’s heritage and O’Neal’s leadership role into a product platform. Reebok still has not disclosed a sales target, production volume or retail allocation, so its commercial ambition remains open-ended.

Why does Foot Locker matter?

Foot Locker is giving the launch a prominent retail partner as the retailer works to strengthen basketball during its own comeback. Dick’s Sporting Goods bought Foot Locker last year, and the retailer launched its year-round “Hoops Live Here” basketball platform earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Foot Locker and Nike debuted a hyperlocal community hub store in Los Angeles. The format extends the retailer’s basketball push from a marketing platform into a physical neighborhood presence.

The backdrop is less favorable: Reebok and Foot Locker’s announcement describes promotional conditions in athletic footwear, especially lifestyle sneakers, as a headwind for Foot Locker in recent quarters. Question supplies a timely basketball product, but no forecast shows whether it can offset that pressure.

What happens on Nov. 10?

Reebok and Foot Locker will open a pop-up at the Bok Building in Philadelphia on Nov. 10. The store experience will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., giving fans a five-hour launch-day window.

Reebok and Foot Locker describe a broader purpose for the event. They say it will honor “Allen Iverson’s impact on basketball, style, and culture, bringing his legacy to life through interactive moments, retail and game-day activations.”

That promise covers one day. The companies have not said whether the pop-up will continue beyond launch day or expand to other cities, so Philadelphia adds theater without a stated long-term event plan.

Reebok’s next test arrives Nov. 10: the $170 Question must turn Iverson heritage and Foot Locker’s basketball push into sales. The announcement supplies clear dates, channels and colorways, but leaves demand, inventory and the claimed cushioning and traction improvements unquantified.
