Tractor Supply has opened an 865,000-square-foot distribution center in Nampa, Idaho — its 11th such facility — with 500 full-time jobs attached and room to grow.
The retailer said the site includes additional acreage for future expansion and 80 truck docks optimized for inbound and outbound traffic flow. It described the building as "large enough to comfortably fit seven Idaho Ford Centers inside."
In its Sept. 23 announcement, chief supply chain officer Craig Ledbetter called the Idaho distribution center "vital" to consumers getting their orders.
"Our distribution centers play a critical role in supporting our team members, stores and customers," Ledbetter said. "The Nampa facility represents a major investment to help our team work safer and more efficiently, setting a new standard for how products move through our supply chain to deliver the legendary service our customers have come to expect."
Nampa Mayor Darl Bruner said the facility marks "a major economic milestone" for his city.
Automation and AI on the warehouse floor
The Nampa site is the first in Tractor Supply's network to implement Order Storage and Retrieval/Automated Storage and Retrieval System (OSR/ASRS) technology. The retailer said it fully integrated the automated architecture across the facility's operations, which can automatically store, sequence and move products safely and more efficiently.
All of the facility's team leaders "are trained in AI fundamentals, and the site leverages a dedicated AI Innovation Team to apply practical artificial intelligence to operational needs," the company said.
The building also meets LEED Silver standards. That tier requires 50 to 69 points out of a possible 110, factoring in energy and water use, materials selection, waste management and indoor environmental quality. Tractor Supply began construction in 2024 and completed the facility in July 2026. It began receiving inventory in August and plans to launch outbound shipping in October.
Capacity and network reach
The new distribution center will support 123 stores across nine states in its first year. Tractor Supply designed the facility to serve more than 200 stores at full operational capacity. As of June 27, the end of its fiscal Q2, the retailer operated 2,463 stores across 49 states, plus 209 Petsense by Tractor Supply stores in 23 states.
The Nampa opening lands as Tractor Supply pushes deeper into fulfillment from its own store base. CEO Hal Lawton, speaking at the Barclays 19th Annual Global Consumer Staples Conference in early September, said the retailer has offered delivery from stores nationwide for about five or six years, with same-day, two-day and three-day shipping options depending on consumer choice.
"So what we've been rolling out over the last 1.5 years is our own kind of what we call Final Mile delivery," Lawton said. "And in essence, what we're doing is we're taking every three to four stores. We're making — we're creating a hub-and-spoke system and serving four stores out of one store."
Store-based delivery is scaling faster than planned. Lawton said on the retailer's Q2 earnings call that Tractor Supply completed as many last-mile deliveries in the first half of 2026 as it did in all of 2025.
Tractor Supply ranks No. 83 in the Top 1000 Database, which tracks North America's largest online retailers by annual ecommerce sales, and No. 225 in Digital Commerce 360's new AI Rankings. With outbound shipping from Nampa set to begin in October, the retailer will soon test whether its most automated distribution center can keep pace with that delivery growth.
