At a glance
- Keith Nicks left Ahold Delhaize USA on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2026, the company confirmed.
- Nicks' departure ended a 36-year career with the company, starting as a Food Lion bagger.
- Nicks had held the chief commercial and digital officer role since April 2025, about one year.
- The exit comes one month after Claire Peters became ADUSA CEO on Sept. 8, 2026.
- ADUSA has not named a successor for the role.
Ahold Delhaize USA Chief Commercial and Digital Officer Keith Nicks left the grocer on Wednesday, the company confirmed to Grocery Dive, ending a 36-year career that began with him bagging groceries at Food Lion.
Nicks' departure comes roughly a year after he stepped into the expanded C-suite role. ADUSA has not yet named a successor.
The exit lands one month after Claire Peters took over as CEO of ADUSA on Sept. 8. Peters, nominated in June, previously served as Amazon's vice president for worldwide fresh, overseeing operations in North America and elsewhere in the world.
What did Nicks oversee?
ADUSA named Nicks chief commercial and digital officer in April 2025. The expanded position put him in charge of commercial operations across the company's businesses, including private brands, sourcing and merchandising.
He retained his previous responsibilities as chief digital officer. That portfolio covered retail media, omnichannel marketing and e-commerce fulfillment partnerships — functions central to grocers' efforts to monetize digital traffic and tie media spending to store sales.
How did Nicks rise through the company?
Nicks started at Food Lion as a bagger, ADUSA wrote in a Wednesday LinkedIn post. He moved up through leadership positions at the banner, including:
- Category manager
- Director of operations
- Director of marketing
- Director of loyalty and digital marketing
At the parent company, he served as vice president of customer engagement and later as senior vice president of digital, personalization, loyalty and analytics.
ADUSA's LinkedIn post credited Nicks with leading omnichannel capability advancements, creating AD Retail Media USA and elevating the grocer's Own Brands portfolio.
Why does the timing matter?
The change concentrates executive transition at the top of ADUSA. Peters arrived with deep grocery-technology expertise from Amazon, and the commercial and digital portfolio Nicks vacated spans the exact areas — retail media, personalization, e-commerce fulfillment — where grocers are competing hardest for margin.
With no successor named, Peters and the ADUSA leadership team now decide who will steer retail media, private brands and omnichannel marketing at a company that operates banners including Stop & Shop and Food Lion. The appointment will signal how the new CEO plans to structure commercial and digital operations under her leadership.
