WinCo Foods named Nathan Tucker president on Jan. 1, 2027, and CEO on May 1, replacing Grant Haag after more than four decades with the grocer.
Haag plans to retire next year. Tucker currently serves as WinCo’s chief merchandising officer, and the grocer did not describe an interim chief executive arrangement.
Takeaway: WinCo has lined up a two-step handoff from a long-serving executive.
What does The Fresh Market’s new leadership structure change?
- Alyssa Vescio, chief commercial officer: The Fresh Market created the role and gave Vescio oversight of marketing, merchandising and commercial planning. She formerly served as the specialty grocer’s chief merchandising officer.
- Marcio Ribeiro, chief digital officer: The appointment makes Ribeiro the retailer’s first chief digital officer. He will oversee direct e-commerce, loyalty, the digital experience and information technology.
The Fresh Market said the changes are part of an effort to better align the specialty retailer’s operations with Cencosud, its parent company. The announcement did not set start dates or identify integration milestones, leaving the practical scope of that alignment unstated.
Takeaway: The Fresh Market has joined commercial and digital oversight under two new roles, with Cencosud alignment as the stated objective.
Who is leading Shipt and Albertsons?
Shipt appointed Raj Kapoor CEO. Kapoor previously served as the company’s chief operating officer before taking a senior vice president of marketplace role at Target. He has now returned to Shipt, whose parent company is Target.
The announcement did not provide Kapoor’s start date or explain the terms of his return. His previous chief operating role offers relevant experience, but the company set no public performance expectations for his second stint.
Albertsons’ retail media arm, Albertsons Media Collective, appointed Steve Shee vice president of operations and strategy. Shee, a former Walmart executive, will direct the unit’s effort to accelerate growth, but the announcement set no target, budget or timetable.
Albertsons confirmed in early October that Brian Monahan, who had headed the grocer’s retail media unit, had left the company. The grocer did not say why Monahan left or where he would go next.
Takeaway: The media unit has a new strategy-and-operations leader, while its former head has departed without a disclosed reason.
What happens after Sprouts’ technology chief steps down?
Sprouts’ first technology chief, Jim Bahrenburg, stepped down after three years in the job. He will remain an advisor to the specialty retailer until early 2027.
The retailer did not name Bahrenburg’s successor or describe the scope of his advisory work. Keeping Bahrenburg as an advisor preserves some continuity, but the company left both leadership questions unanswered.
Takeaway: Sprouts has removed its first technology chief from the executive seat while retaining him as an advisor into early 2027.
Who replaces Neil Stern at Good Food Holdings?
Good Food Holdings named Adam Caldecott CEO, promoting him from president and chief operating officer. Caldecott replaces Neil Stern, who retired after serving as CEO since 2020.
The West Coast specialty grocery operator did not say when Caldecott’s tenure began or outline any strategic changes. The announcement supplies continuity at the top, but no timetable for a new direction.
Takeaway: Good Food Holdings has chosen an internal operator to lead a CEO transition without announcing a strategy reset.
What is Thrive Market changing in growth?
- Eric Kovalkoski, senior director of growth marketing: He will work on growth strategy across member activation and retention at the specialty e-grocer. Kovalkoski most recently held a growth-related role at Poshmark, an online fashion and home decor retailer.
- Barron Kennedy, senior director of growth measurement and analytics: The appointment adds a senior leader for measurement and analytics. The announcement did not outline Kennedy’s specific duties or set targets for either role.
A previous version of the report misstated details about Kovalkoski’s role.
Takeaway: Thrive Market has paired member growth work with a new measurement-and-analytics role, but attached no numerical goals.
What does Ahold Delhaize USA’s latest departure mean?
Keith Nicks stepped down as Ahold Delhaize USA’s chief commercial and digital officer after about a year in the position. Nicks worked for ADUSA for 36 years.
The supermarket operator did not announce Nicks’s successor or say where he would go next. The departure removes a 36-year veteran from senior leadership, but the operator left both succession and operational effects unstated.
Takeaway: ADUSA has lost a 36-year veteran from its top commercial-and-digital post after a one-year tenure.
The month’s announcements touch leadership at eight grocery businesses, including CEO changes at WinCo, Shipt and Good Food Holdings. The next checkpoints are Tucker’s Jan. 1, 2027 promotion and any performance targets the companies attach to their new commercial, digital and retail media leaders. Most announcements provide no such targets.
