Shipt Adds Wakefern's 350-Plus Stores to Same-Day Grocery Delivery

Shipt's deal with Wakefern brings same-day delivery to 350-plus stores across eight banners, with half off orders of $50 or more until Nov. 14, following its Sprouts partnership.

At a glance

  • Shipt now delivers from more than 350 Wakefern stores across eight banners, it announced Friday.
  • Launch offer: half off orders of $50 or more, up to $40 in savings, until Nov. 14.
  • Earlier this month, Shipt partnered with Sprouts Farmers Market for same-day delivery from 500-plus stores.
  • Wakefern already runs e-commerce partnerships with Instacart, DoorDash and, since September, Uber Eats.

Shipt now delivers from more than 350 stores run by Wakefern Food Corp., the Target-owned e-commerce operator announced Friday. The deal brings same-day grocery delivery to shoppers across Wakefern's eight supermarket banners, including ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, Morton Williams and The Fresh Grocer.

The partnership with Wakefern, a New Jersey-based, retailer-owned supermarket cooperative, significantly expands Shipt's grocery delivery footprint in the Northeast. It also continues a deliberate push by the company to widen its roster of grocery partners beyond its Target roots.

What does the new partnership offer shoppers?

Customers ordering through Shipt can now shop Wakefern's banners with the personalized, shopper-driven fulfillment model that has defined the platform since its founding. Katie Stratton, Shipt's Chief Growth and Strategy Officer, framed the deal around customer demand for these regional grocery brands.

"We're excited to welcome these highly requested and beloved grocery banners to Shipt and help more of our Northeast customers access the grocery brands they know and trust, backed by the personalized shopping experience that sets Shipt apart," Stratton said in a statement.

To mark the launch, Shipt is running a discount for new and existing shoppers:

  • Half off orders of $50 or more
  • Savings capped at $40 per order
  • Offer runs until Nov. 14

How does this fit Shipt's broader strategy?

The Wakefern deal is the second major grocery partnership Shipt has announced this month. Earlier in November, the company unveiled a deal with Sprouts Farmers Market to offer same-day delivery from the chain's more than 500 stores. For that launch, Shipt offered new members its monthly membership at 99 cents per month for the first four months.

Taken together, the two agreements add roughly 850-plus stores to Shipt's same-day delivery network in a single month. The moves show Shipt positioning itself as a multi-banner grocery platform rather than an extension of a single retailer's e-commerce operation.

What does the deal mean for Wakefern?

For Wakefern, the Shipt agreement adds another digital sales channel to an already crowded e-commerce lineup. The cooperative already works with:

  • Instacart
  • DoorDash
  • Uber Eats, which Wakefern teamed up with in September to expand on-demand delivery

The multi-partner approach gives Wakefern's member retailers flexibility in how they reach online shoppers. It also puts Shipt in direct competition with the major third-party marketplaces inside the same supermarket banners.

The partnership signals that regional grocery cooperatives remain contested ground for delivery platforms, and Shipt's pace of new grocery deals suggests more banner announcements are likely as the company builds out its network.
